Neurobehavioural Correlates of Breath Meditation in Novice Adolescents: Insights from Anapanasati-based Paradigm.

Summary

Breath meditation can significantly enhance relaxation and mindfulness in adolescents, as shown by a study using electroencephalography (EEG) to measure brain activity during a structured breath-awareness intervention. Increased alpha oscillation indicated relaxation, while positive associations between breath counting and cognitive processing emerged. Notably, mindfulness correlated with enhanced frontal brain activity, suggesting that inward focus may reduce outward social awareness. Gender differences were observed, with females displaying greater mindfulness and brain activity. This highlights the potential of breath meditation in promoting psychological well-being among adolescents.
